William C. McSweeney, 61, of Oswego, passed away Saturday, March 22, 2025. He was born in Oswego, son of the late George McSweeney and the late Ann Cullinan McSweeney. He was employed by the NYS Department of Corrections where he began his career as an instructor and later become a Vocational Supervisor.

He loved spending time with his family, as they were his greatest passion and source of pride. Time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren brought him immense joy, and the time spent together was cherished by all.

William was also passionate about serving his community as he had served many years with the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department. He rose through the ranks from a firefighter to an assistant chief with his family by his side. He was a dedicated Marching Buccaneer band parent for over a decade. William was also a life member of the Oswego Elks Lodge in addition to serving on the Scriba Town Board, where he worked tirelessly to improve his community.

He is predeceased by his sister in-law, Tessie McSweeney, and nephew, Tito Ruiz.

William is survived by his wife, Cathy (Reedy) McSweeney, daughters, Mollie (Kyle Bardin) McSweeney of West Virginia, Maggie McSweeney of Oswego, sons, Bill (Malorie Ruel) McSweeney of Kentucky, and Keeghan McSweeney of Oswego, brother, George McSweeney of Hawaii, sister, Mary McSweeney of Oswego, grandchildren, Emma, Liam, and Ella McSweeney, as well as several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Calling hours will be Friday, March 28, 3:00-6:00 at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, Oswego, followed by a memorial service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that you cherish every moment you're given with your loved ones.
