Susanna Estrella-DeMott, 63, of Oswego NY passed away peacefully at home on October 2nd after a valiant battle with ALS.

Susanna was born in New Rochelle, NY, daughter of Manuel Estrella and Theresa (Pinto) Estrella. She graduated from high school in 1980 and went on to earn a BA in Public Justice from SUNY Oswego and then studied Education and Counseling & Psychological Services at the graduate level.

She met and fell in love with William DeMott in 1982, a magical state college romance. They were married in 1988 at Blessed Sacrament church in New Rochelle, NY and have lived happily in Oswego, NY ever since.

Susanna has worked tirelessly, first at Rural Opportunities as a caseworker for migrant services, then as an advisement counselor at SUNY Oswego, then as a caseworker for the County of Oswego, working for the Health Department, Child Protective Services, and Employment & Training. She often volunteered her bilingual skills to help the Spanish-speaking population of Central New York. She retired in July 2025.

Through the years, Susanna has been involved with La Leche League, Rural and Migrant Ministry, The Trinity Catholic Home and School Association, The Children's Board of Oswego, and was an active member of the YMCA. She and her family were members of Christ the Good Shepherd church in Oswego, where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

Susanna enjoyed running, racquetball, and tennis. She loved to ski, skate, and dance. She was the number one fan of her sons' athletic teams, attending every sports match or meet possible, usually arriving with fresh baked goods…so often that she eventually earned the nickname "the muffin Mom". Susanna was also an active member of the Art Association of Oswego. She had a passion for photography and exhibited her work in local and regional exhibitions.

Susanna is survived by her husband, William; her two sons, Austin DeMott of Syracuse and Zachary DeMott of Oswego; her two brothers, Marco Estrella of Ossining, NY and his wife Lorraine (Loffredo) Estrella and Richard Estrella of Yorktown Heights, NY and his wife Suzanne (Walsh) Estrella, her beloved brothers-in-law and their wives, and countless nieces and nephews of whom she was extraordinarily proud.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10am Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Christ the Good Shepherd Church in Oswego.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Friday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
