Richard J.
Munski, Sr.
Apr 1, 1950 — Nov 29, 2024
Oswego
Richard "Dick" James Munski, Sr., 74, of Oswego, passed away Friday, November 29, at Upstate University Hospital surrounded by his family. He suffered acute chemotherapy-induced pneumonitis as a complication of treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was the devoted husband of Laura M. (Landry) Munski. They shared 37 years together.
Born in Oswego on April 1, 1950, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Haas) Munski, Sr. He was a life resident of Oswego and graduated from Oswego High School in 1967 before serving in the US Army Reserves.
Dick was a long-time employee at Alcan Aluminum (Novelis) for close to 40 years. Prior, he was employed at Columbia Mills and Miller Brewing.
Whether it were cars, trucks, motorcycles, or boats, if they were being raced, he would watch. He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended most Oswego Speedway races since he was a kid. Dick raced snowmobiles in the 1970s competing in oval course circuits throughout the North Country. Together, Dick and Laura enjoyed fishing, waterskiing, and watching the sunset on Lake Ontario in their "My Wet Vette" powerboat.
After retirement, a self-taught welder and skilled mechanic of all things on four wheels, Dick took pride in his corvettes and trucks.
Dick will be remembered for being witty, kind, loving, resourceful, and very hardworking. He was the man of the house, a.k.a. the spider killer, and his lawn had to be mowed just right.
Besides his wife, Dick is survived by his sons, Richard, Jr. of Scriba and Jason, Sr. (Kala) of Cato; his grandson, Jason, Jr., USMC Staff Sargent; his brother, Anthony, Jr. (Theresa) of Deerfield; his sister, Susan (Gary Henry) of Clarence Center; his sister-in-law Rebecca; his nieces and nephews, Kimberley, Michele, Austin, and Ciara; and his best buddy, Jimmie, the cat.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire 6I ICU of Upstate University Hospital for their valiant efforts to return his health.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10 AM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 PM to 7 PM at the funeral home. A spring burial in the Cremation Garden at St. Peter Cemetery will be held at the family's discretion.
Following Thursday's service, family and friends are invited to a lunch buffet at Canale's Ristorante.
For those that would like to send flowers, the family would like you to consider House of Bloom Florals, Hannibal, at www.houseofbloomflorals.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org.
