Norma Ann Canale, 94, a long-time resident of Scriba, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Crouse Hospital in Syracuse.

Norma was born in Scriba, the daughter of the late Orlie and Mabel (Buske) Gilbert. She was a resident of Scriba all her life.

She was the wife of the late Dominick Canale, who passed away on May 4, 2001

She was a 1945 graduate of Oswego High School. Prior to her retirement, she served as a Councilperson in the Town of Scriba for 38 years. She had also worked at the Pontiac Hotel and at Canale's Restaurant in Oswego.

At one time, she had served on the homemaking board of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oswego County, where she started a successful program on ethnic cooking. She enjoyed cooking and baking and said it was her "therapy".

Norma was a communicant, choir member, and president of the Altar Rosary Societies of St. Joseph's Parish in Oswego, and Sacred Heart Parish in Scriba. She was active throughout the community in many ways.

She enjoyed singing and dancing in the company of her many nieces and nephews

She is survived by two sons, Richard (Natalie) Canale, and Ronald (Beth) Canale of Scriba; four grandchildren, Anthony (Courtney), Drew (Amanda), Benjamin (Howie), and Dominique (Justin); and many neices and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 Friday, at Christ the Good Shepherd Church at St. Joseph's in Oswego.

Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Scriba.

Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9pm Wednesday, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm Thursday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego. Masks are required and NYS social distancing guidelines will be in place.
