It is with great sadness that the family of Michael Herrera announces his passing after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family on January 22, 2019, at age 81. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Virginia (Reid) Herrera; three children, Felicia (Jeff) Wells, Michele Herrera, Michael (Stephanie) Herrera; seven grandchildren, Blake, Catherine, Noah, Drew, Michael, Mia, and Elle, one nephews Michael R. Herrera and one niece Ti Albritton. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank Herrera and his cousin David Rasines.
Born November 13, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York to Jesus and Pilar (Iglesias) Herrera, Michael graduated from Milford Prep, Connecticut in 1955 and went on to attend West Virginia Wesleyan on a scholarship. Michael earned his Master's Degree in Social Work from Florida State and taught as an assistant professor at Syracuse University's Graduate School of Social Work.
