Helen F. Babcock, 78, a resident of Co. Rt. 53 in the Town of Scriba, passed away Tuesday, in Oswego.

Helen was born in Oswego, the daughter of the late Tracy and Ethel (Askew) Penfield. She was one of 13 children, and was a life resident of the area.

She was a graduate of Crouse School of Nursing in Syracuse.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a registered nurse with St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. She had formerly worked for the General Electric Co. in Schenectady.

Helen loved to read, and finished many, many books throughout the years.

She was the wife of the late Leo Babcock Sr., who died in 2002.

She is survived by four daughters, Kim Lounsbury of Syracuse, Tracey (Zane) Allen of Florida, Penny (Edward) Nelson of Sheds, and Brandy (Paul Phinney) Babcock of Scriba; a son, Leo (Tricia) Babcock, Jr. of Scriba; a brother, Paul (Theresa) Penfield of Scriba; a sister, Frances Wadas of Scriba; nine grandchildren, Amanda Torbitt, Jordan Torbitt, Dalton Babcock, Hailey Babcock, Josh Nelson, Eddie Nelson, Chrissy Nelson, Savannah Lounsbury, and Gabrielle Lounsbury; 5 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Richard J. Lounsbury Jr.; and ten siblings.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 Saturday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.

Calling hours will be held from 1:00 to 4:00, prior to the service, at the funeral home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
