Bruce H. Franklin, 84, teacher, coach, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, a man of learning with many interests, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 19, 2018 at Oswego Hospital.

Bruce's expansive knowledge in literature, history, art, music, classic films, gardening, and sports (especially baseball) was well-known and cherished by all who knew him.

Bruce, a native Oswegonian, was the son of the late Walter and Emilie (Howard) Franklin.  He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict at Offutt Air Base in Omaha, NE.

A graduate of Oswego State Teacher's College, Bruce taught fifth and sixth grades, primarily in Corinth, New York.  Throughout his career, he also taught in Louisiana, on Long Island, and in Old Forge, NY.  He was coordinator of the gifted program in the APW Central School District, and finished his teaching career locally, retiring from Oswego County BOCES.

During his years in Oswego, Bruce was a stellar infielder on many baseball and softball squads, including the Oswego Genesees and Rudy's.  He also coached one of Oswego's finest youth baseball aggregations, the Diamond Aces.

Bruce is survived by daughters Deborah (Franklin) Cloonan (Daniel Schrader) of Oswego and Julie Franklin of Debary, FL; son Bruce Franklin (Brandy) of Carmel, NY; a brother W. James Franklin (Haven) of Freehold, NJ;  grandchildren Michael and Sean Cloonan, and Lyndsey Franklin (Ryan Polky) of Oswego, and John Franklin of Carmel; and great-grandchildren Shawn, Lily-Simone, Adrian, and Ayanna.
