Dorothy Agnes Muldoon, 91 and a resident of Oswego. Died Sunday April 1, at the Pontiac Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Oswego she was the daughter of the late William A. and Catherine Agnes (McBride) Knopp.
She was a graduate of Oswego High School and Hartwick College. While attending Hartwick College she had a brush with fame. She accidently spilled a piece of pie on First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, who was visiting the school at the time. Mrs. Roosevelt was very gracious about the incident. Dorothy related this story in later life, always with a smile. Dorothy was employed with the Oswego School District Lunch Program, supervising the program at St. Mary’s School where the children referred to her as to her as “Grandma”. She retired in her early eighties. Dorothy was a life member of St. Mary’s Church.
Dorothy was an avid reader. She enjoyed gardening, travel and family gatherings where her beef pot roast and big soft molasses cookies were always a welcomed addition to the occasion.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 29 years, John Muldoon, a WWII veteran of the Liberation of the Philippines. She was also predeceased by her only son, Frederick William Malone in 2001, and a daughter in-law, Julie (Morgia) Malone and seven siblings, Margaret Knopp, Elizabeth Pospesel, Frances Dwyer, Robert, Harry and John Knopp and William Knapp.
Surviving are five grandchildren, Joseph Malone of Tennessee, Frederick Malone, Jr., Joanne ( Tom) Hammond, Julianne Malone, Margerie Malone all of Oswego, five great grandchildren including Madison Malone of Oswego, three great-great grandchildren, one brother Neil J. (Marlene) Knopp of Oswego and several nieces and nephews.
