Oswego – David L. Dirk, 70, a resident of 240 Syracuse Avenue, passed away suddenly on Friday, at University Hospital in Syracuse.
Mr. Dirk was born in Oswego, the son of the late Freeman J. and Gertrude C. (Archer) Dirk. He had lived in Oswego for most of his life. Prior to his retirement, he was employed as an engineer with the Carrier Corporation in Syracuse. He was formerly a paramedic with the Moyers Corners Fire Department.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and served for 27 years with the New York State Army National Guard, where he retired as a 1st Sergeant.
Mr. Dirk was a Life Member of the V.F.W. Lavere-Harrington Post #2320 in Oswego, and served for many years as their Quartermaster. He was a past Post Commander and was an advocate for veteran’s issues at the county and state level. He was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties.
He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman and belonged to the Port City Umpires Association. Mr. Dirk was Junior Vice President of Abraham Lincoln Camp Number 6, Sons of the Union Veterans of the Civil War and participated in the 28th New York State Volunteer Infantry Reenactors Group, Company E.
Mr. Dirk was a member of the Oswego Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn (Rowsey) Dirk of Oswego; 4 daughters: Samantha (Kirk) Golden of Brockport, Rebecca Dirk of Oswego, Claudette Dirk of Newark,NY and Melinda Munger of Fairport, NY; 2 brothers, Robert Dirk of Las Vegas, NV, and Charles Dirk of Norwell, MA; and a sister, Barbara Donahue of Oswego; 7 grandchildren: Jared, Chase, and Carson Golden, Brittani Boyer, Alex and Tristen Munger, and Hunter Kaplan; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Freeman James Dirk Jr.
Calling hours will be held from 3:00 to 7:00pm Tuesday, at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home, 112 East Second Street in Oswego.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30am Wednesday, at the Oswego Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 370 Thompson Road, Oswego.
