Ralph P. Fontana, 66, a resident of 946 Middle Rd. in the town of Scriba died Friday at his home. He was born in Oswego, and was the son of the late Silvio and Frances Nasca Fontana. He was the husband of Lynda Callen Fontana.
Mr. Fontana served in the US Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Mr. Fontana was an Oswego City Fireman for a short time prior to his employment at Alcan, where he served as a member of the Alcan Volunteer Fire Department. He was a former member of the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Fontana had also been employed as a control room operator at the Oswego Steam Station and retired from NRG Power Co. in June 2003.
Mr. Fontana was involved in many civic organizations including American Legion Post 268, VFW Post Quattrini-Dehm Post 5885, Friends of Fort Ontario and a past member of H. Lee White Museum.
Mr. Fontana was instrumental in the development of the Oswego Veteran’s Museum and Heritage Center, and an advocate for local veteran’s affairs.
He was a Communicant of St. Mary’s Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters: Angela (Mark) Spreter of Brewster, Lisa (John Belt) Ellis of Oswego, Teresa (Chad) Evans of Cutchogue, NY.; two sisters: Nancy (Vito) Pace of Ft. Myers, Fl. and Cosimina (Joseph) Masuicca of Oswego; four grandchildren: Samuel Spreter, Aidan Spreter, Timothy Ellis, Maggie Ellis, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wed. 8:30AM from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 9:00AMAM in St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday 4-7PM at the funeral home.
